Course Outline
The Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training course has been designed to ensure that all trainers delivering the Asthma Foundation of Victoria short course in Anaphylaxis Awareness (21827VIC) have a sound knowledge of allergy and anaphylaxis, ensuring the provision of consistent, evidence based best practice information to participants Anaphylaxis Awareness course.
Successful completion of the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training is the minimum standard required for delivery of the Anaphylaxis Awareness course (21827VIC)
Topics covered in the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training include:
Allergy
- Allergic and anaphylactic reactions
- Clinical manifestations of anaphylaxis
- Current best practices in preventative strategies
- Risk minimisation strategies for allergic/anaphylactic reactions
- Management of anaphylaxis emergencies for a range of stakeholders
- Current best practice government policy and guidelines for children’s services, schools, workplaces
Who can become an Anaphylaxis Awareness Trainer?:
Anyone who has an interest in being involved in community training and can demonstrate current involvement in one of the following areas:
- First Aid providers to at least Instructor level
- Health educators in tertiary institutions
- Asthma educators
- Pharmacists
- Paramedics
- Registered nurses
Course pre-requisites:
This course is open to all people who have worked in the Health Care sector and can demonstrate currency. All participants must hold a current Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment or equivalent.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL):
The Asthma Foundation of Victoria recognises previous experiences and competencies that participants may have. Recognition of Prior Learning is available to participants who can demonstrate competencies within asthma or related fields.
Duration of the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training Course:
The duration of the Vocational Graduate Certificate Course is a nominal 300 hours. This involves two days face to face training, together with a post course assignment and a significant research assignment. Recognition of prior learning is applicable.
Cost:
The cost of the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training Course is $750.00
Participants will receive the following to assist in training:
- Participant manual with PowerPoint notes
- Appropriate brochures, action plans, posters
- Support and advice during the course and post course assignments
Assessment
- Assessment in the course will be based upon
- practical assessment of devices and their use during the face to face component of the course
- a post course assignment
- All assessment will be directly related to the participants work. Recognition of prior learning is applicable.
Qualification
Upon successful completion of the Vocational Graduate Certificate in Anaphylaxis Management Training course participants will receive a ‘Statement of Attainment’ which is valid as long as the person remains a current Licensed Trainer.
To remain a current licensed trainer:
- Teach a minimum of 2 Anaphylaxis Awareness courses per year
- Attend trainer updates organised by the Asthma Foundation of Victoria
The Asthma Foundation of Victoria provides ongoing support and professional development for all Licensed Trainers.
