Training for Health Professionals
The Asthma Foundation of Victoria has a number of programs for health professionals. These include nationally accredited training courses for Pharmacists and Pharmacy Assistants and regular update sessions for health professionals which are held throughout Victoria, principally in regional locations. Details are provided below.
Course in Asthma Management for Pharmacists (22033VIC)
The Course in Asthma Management for Pharmacists (22033VIC) is tailored to the needs of pharmacists. The purpose of the course is to provide Pharmacists with:
- A working knowledge of asthma
- The skills and knowledge to provide customers with information on asthma strategies to better manage their asthma
- The knowledge of current research and ways to assist clients with their management strategies
- The skills and knowledge to recognise worsening asthma and manage an acute asthma attack within a pharmacy
- A knowledge of Community Asthma Programs
- A knowledge of current alternative therapies that customers may be using to gain better control of their asthma
The duration of the Course is one day, from 9.00am to 5.00pm. Courses can be arranged at a location to suit you (10 or more participants) or at the Asthma Foundation of Victoria.

Upon satisfactory completion of the post course assignment participants will be eligible to apply to their Governing Pharmacy Association for CPD & PI points.
Course in Asthma Management for Pharmacy Assistants (22032VIC)
The Course in Asthma Management for Pharmacy Assistants (22032VIC) is tailored to meet the needs of pharmacy assistants. It provides the knowledge about the underlying causes of asthma, the triggers and recognition of an asthma attack and how to respond in an emergency situation. Course participants also receive instruction on how to offer information about asthma and asthma delivery devices to the customer.
The duration of the Course is three (3) hours. Courses can be arranged at a location to suit you (10 or more participants) or at the Asthma Foundation of Victoria.
