AIMS

The Asthma Foundation of Victoria has developed a new tool to help you manage your asthma. The Asthma Improvement Monitoring System (AIMS) will allow you to monitor your asthma over time (daily, weekly, monthly, even yearly!) to identify any patterns in deterioration of your asthma symptoms and when you need to speak to your doctor.

This system is based on the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA) Guidelines for Asthma Management.
Becoming a registered user of The Asthma Foundation of Victoria’s website will give you access to:
· The online asthma management tool (AIMS) that will allow you to enter your peak flow measurements, as well as answer six questions about your asthma symptoms. Your results will be automatically packaged and sent to you on a monthly basis. If you have a negative response to any question for three consecutive days, you can print your results from the website or you can email them directly to your doctor. The system will advise you that it may be wise to visit you doctor to discuss your asthma.

An SMS sent to your mobile phone on high and extreme pollen days if you live in the Melbourne metropolitan area (optional)

When you register for the AIMS Program you will be asked a series of questions about your asthma which include:

Have you been diagnosed by a doctor and when?

  • Smoking status
  • Medications you currently take
  • Asthma Triggers
  • Last episode
  • Reviewing your asthma

(This program is not to be used in place of medical advice)
