The Community Support Program
The Asthma Foundation of Victoria (AFV) is committed to supporting people with asthma and their carers to better manage their condition through the provision of asthma education and information. One way in which this is achieved is through the Community Support Program.
The Community Support Program provides the community with free evidence based, best practice information regarding asthma and linked respiratory conditions through individual and community information, support and education. This is to enable Victorians with asthma and linked chronic respiratory conditions to live full and active lives. These sessions are funded by the Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing through the Asthma Management Program.
Within the Community Support Program there is a particular emphasis on providing support to:
- Older Australians,
- People living in low socio-economic areas,
- Rural and regional communities,
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and
- Cultural and Linguistically Diverse groups.
Some examples of education that we have facilitated this year include:
- Staff and carers at Uniting Aged Care Residential Facilities throughout Victoria,
- Information updates to health professionals working in rural hospitals,
- Guest speaker at different culturally and linguistically diverse social groups across Melbourne, including the Australian Turkish Association and the Eastern Region Chinese Club among others,
- Exercise Induced Asthma specific sessions for sporting club coaches,
- Staff and community members of the Bendigo and District Aboriginal Cooperative.
If you would like to arrange a free one hour education session for your community group or staff, please contact use our CSP booking form.
