Students from Altona North’s Early Learners School will get a firsthand knowledge of asthma next week.
Staff from The Asthma Foundation of Victoria will talk to the students on what asthma is, what causes it and what can be done to lessen its impact including what to do in an asthma emergency.
The presentation is part of the Foundations celebration of World Asthma Day, which is observed internationally on the first Tuesday of May every year aimed at making the community more aware of asthma and how to manage it.
One in nine children and one in ten adults, or more than 600,000 Victorians, have asthma.
The presentation will be conducted from 10 to 10.45 am at the Early Learner’s School, 272 Millers Road, Altona North on Tuesday, May 4.
The Asthma Foundation of Victoria Presenters will talk about what causes asthma, which is congestion of the airways caused by dust, smoke, pollen and a range of other triggers and how to manage it.
Asthma is the major reason why Victorian school children miss classes and end up at hospital emergency departments. However, better management of asthma, including knowledge of what triggers it and an individual Asthma Action Plan for everyone with asthma, can lessen its impact.
