Planned Burns Advice - North East Region Saturday 14 April 2012 1730hrs

The Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) and Parks Victoria advise that planned burning will be carried out in the following areas tomorrow, Sunday 15 April 2012, weather conditions permitting:

Upper Murray District:

  • Darbyshire - A 548 hectare fuel reduction burn located 6km north west of Koetong
  • Wallaces Road Jimmy Creek - A 157 hectare fuel reduction burn located 8 km of Koetong
  • Beaties Track - A 169 hectare fuel reduction burn located 13 km north west of Koetong
  • Lightbound - A 92 hectare fuel reduction burn located 9km NNE of Tallangatta
  • Bunroy - A 2667 hectare fuel reduction burn located 20km south east of Corryong
  • Mitchells Fireline - A 175 hectare fuel reduction burn located 12km north east of Shelley

Ovens District:

  • Bread and Butter - A 137 hectare fuel reduction burn located 8 km south west of Nug Nug        
  • Marshalls Road - A 134 hectare fuel reduction burn located 7 km south west of Nug Nug
  • Back Creek Road - A 874 hectare fuel reduction burn located 1.2 km east of Buffalo River
  • Hillsborough - A 1116 hectare fuel reduction burn located 1.2 km west of Freeburgh
  • Carboor Parkinsons Road - A 254 hectare fuel reduction burn located 7km south east of Carboor
  • Porepunkah Hores - A 68 hectare fuel reduction burn located 5.5 km south west of Porepunkah
  • Honey Lane - A 97 hectare fuel reduction burn located 6km NNW of Whitfield

The following burns may be ignited in coming days subject to suitable conditions:

Goulburn District:

  • Moonlight Track - A 224 hectare fuel reduction burn located in the Warby Ovens National Park, 2km NNW of Glenrowan
  • Bunyip 5 - A 17.5 hectare fuel reduction burn located 28km NNE of Nathalia
  • Chinamans Garden - A 273 hectare fuel reduction burn located at Tongalong Island, Barmah State Park
  • Black Springs - A 228 hectare fuel reduction burn located in the Warby Ovens National Park, 9km west of Wangaratta
  • Post Patch - A 45 hectare fuel reduction burn located in the Warby Ovens National Park, 9km west of Wangaratta
  • Mt Killawarra - A 140 hectare fuel reduction burn located 4km north east of Boweya

Murrindindi District:
Toolangi, Marysville Alexandra and Broadford Areas - Commercial timber harvesting regeneration burns located in areas around Toolangi, Marysville, Alexandra and   Broadford.

Ovens District:

  • Mount Jack North - A 853 hectare fuel reduction burn located 12.5 km south east of Glen Creek
  • Dederang North House Creek - A 242 hectare fuel reduction burn located 2 km west of Dederang
  • Cemetery Lane - A 211 hectare fuel reduction burn located 2 km SSW of Edi
  • Lake Buffalo Dandongadale - A 3354 hectare fuel reduction burn located 13 km south of Lake Buffalo        
  • Cheshunt Wabonga Track - A 1821 hectare fuel reduction burn located 7 km south of Cheshunt        
  • Cheshunt MacMillans Track - A 2185 hectare fuel reduction burn located 11 km south of Cheshunt        
  • Willowbank - A 90 hectare fuel reduction burn located 6 km NNE of Myrhee
  • Edi Range North - A 518 hectare fuel reduction burn located 2 km north east of Edi
  • Smalls Lane - A 103 hectare fuel reduction burn located at Cheshunt
  • Waters Lane - A 60 hectare fuel reduction burn located 2 km north of Carboor
  • Moyhu Timber Reserve - A 901 hectare fuel reduction burn located 10 km south of Moyhu
  • Moyhu Edi Range South - A 926 hectare fuel reduction burn located 12 km south east of Moyhu
  • Baranduda Stringybark Block - A 8 hectare fuel reduction burn located at Baranduda
  • Bright Demon Ridge - A 1069 hectare fuel reduction burn located 5 km south of Bright

Upper Murray District:

  • Shelley Stevo Road - A 553 hectare fuel reduction burn located 10 km south of Koetong
  • Tallangatta Lookout Tk - A 369 hectare fuel reduction burn located 1 km south of Tallangatta
  • Bruno - A 5 hectare fuel reduction burn located on the Gibb Range
  • Murphy Track - A 1070 hectare fuel reduction burn located 22 km SSE of Tangambalanga
  • Barkers Track - A 2047 hectare fuel reduction burn located 19 km south west of Corryong
  • Woods Track - A 144 hectare fuel reduction burn located 11 km NNE of Tallangatta
  • Walwa Shelley Road - A 159 hectare fuel reduction burn located 4 km north east of Shelley


DSE and PV are doing more planned burning to reduce the risk of bushfire to people, property and communities. You may be affected by smoke from these planned burns.

What to do

If you are experiencing any symptoms that may be due to smoke exposure, the Department of Health advises that you should seek medical advice or call Nurse on Call on 1300 606 024.

Road users

  • Road travel may be hazardous due to low visibility associated with smoke;
  • Signs may be in place to slow traffic. Obey all traffic signs and instructions from fire agency crews near the burn.
  • For road closures check www.vicroads.vic.gov.au
  • Access to walking tracks, car parks, camping grounds and picnic sites in areas close to or in burn areas may be restricted

Smoke and your home

  • Close windows and doors to prevent smoke from entering.
  • Avoid hanging washing out.
