Alleviate colds and allergies: It's all in the air

Posted: July 12, 2010

Since breathing is essential, it’s important to be in environments with good air quality. Your home and car are two places where you can have control over the air quality. The following products can make a big difference in the quality of air you breathe.

A steam vaporizer may be your answer for air that is too dry. Air that is really dry can contribute to dehydration and dry sinuses. Your body has a harder time fighting infections when it lacks moisture. Artificial heat sometimes makes the conditions less suitable. An alternative solution is a home humidifier. Free of bacteria and chemicals, a vaporizer simply releases the vapor from boiling water. When your body is in balance, it can combat viruses and other harmful things much better. Moist air minimizes the symptoms of dry eyes, throat and nose.  If your air is too humid, a dehumidifier can help. Too much humidity can also breed bacteria. It also creates ideal conditions for mold and mildew to grow. A compact dehumidifier takes some of the moisture from the air and releases a drier air flow. The air is also warmed to a comfortable level before it is released. With less humidity you can breathe much easier. It’s very useful in bedrooms and rooms where moisture tends to gather.

Air purifiers and air filters clean and purify the air. As soon as you open a door, the particles floating outside can come inside your home. These things mix with the dust and dander that already float around indoors. Allergy sufferers definitely react to these substances even if they're invisible. An air purifier or air filter can help reduce these effects. There are many stores that sell simple air filters for your home vents. You can also buy air purifiers at many stores. These machines come in a variety of sizes, and the filtration system helps remove harmful chemicals, bacteria and other pollutants.

Although you may not realize the quality of your air, you can feel the difference when it is cleaner. These air quality devices are often inexpensive and definitely worth the value. These machines help the environment around you both indoors and out.
